Anonymous art donor to honor John Antes

An anonymous Wayland resident has offered to fund a gift at the new community center in memory of John Antes, a longtime resident who volunteered for decades in roles that supported the town’s seniors.

The donor and Antes’ family propose to create a piece of outdoor garden art: a custom-designed and hand-crafted mosaic mounted on a four-foot-high pedestal in memory of Antes. The mosaic image on the plaque will be similar to a picture of the lake, a choice guided by Mary Antes and her family. They are suggesting that this piece of outdoor art be placed behind the Community Center near the screened porch.

Local sculptor and mosaic artist Janie Belive, who knew Antes through his work at the Council on Aging, is donating her time to create the artwork.
